Evolution
Page is named as the assignments below were largely responsible for my growth and evolution in web design. For the most part, these projects aren't as pretty as later projects, because as implied, I evolved!
Poem Page - Styling with CSS - Crudaduda
The poem itself is a bit of silliness inspired by an undergraduate math classmate. Whenever a concept seemed too complicated, she was too polite to yell "Oh (curse word)", so she uniquely cried "Oh Cruddadudda". I couldn't write a poem using her word in that context as the only rhymes I could think of were "fadda", "mudda", "butta" - kind of a Bugs Bunny English. Yet a whole story unfolded based on these rhymes and the poem was a big hit in class.
More importantly, this was my first real CSS assignment, and I deliberately kept it simple. No pictures, no links, just "how do I make this look how I want it to?" and then I set about doing so.
The Recipe Site - Mom's Apple Pie
This was fun and I'm pleased how it turned out. 1940's pictures of my mother are assembled together around pie, and her famous (among our relatives) recipe is grandly displayed. The picture of she and her pie at the bottom is current. Many CSS techniques were used to style this page, including a long strip of the actual pie to use as section separators.
Damn good pie too!
Photograph Repair and Restoration - Al & Yogi
The damaged photograph belonged to Al Feroni, a former sports writer, who is pictured with Yogi Bera. This was Yogi's first year as a player/manager of the NY Mets (1963?). You can see the photo is torn, has many small liquid splatters (coffee?) and several glue marks left from cellophane tape residue. Additionally, it's a poor scan I did years ago, and I no longer have the original to get a better image. By poor, I mean there is much pixelation and distortion that was not present in the original. Yet with all the damage and poor image quality, the transformation is still amazing. CLICK above to see before and after.
