About Pat Daley
I've been in computers almost 30 years, and I finally grew tired of it. In fact I was a distribution center manager in my last position and I loved the change. When the center closed, I wanted to give web design a try, and I was thrilled to move from New York State to Georgia to attend the intensive 9 month Kennesaw Internet Professional program. That's the brief version. Click "About Me" for the full version.
The Portfolio
As you click above you'll see what I've been up to for 9 months. The buttons aren't quite chronological, but they are close. The last 2 buttons are indeed the last 3 projects I designed. In brief, the links are:
The Links
- About Me - with regards to web design and other highlights from my nearly 30 years in Information Technology.
- Evolution - a few class assignments grouped together. These weren't big enough to be projects in themselves, but I include them as they were the building blocks of my KIP education. They include:
- restoration efforts on a badly damaged photograph
- a one page website tribute to my mom and her apple pie
- a poem site was a great introduction to webpage styling with CSS.
- Logo - Our introduction to Adobe Illustrator. My "PD" personal logo is at the bottom of this page. There are two others.
- Collage - Use of our Photoshop skills to combine pictures and tell a story without text. You are to guess the theme. Hint, mine is a song, but it's old song that not everyone in class knew. I'll answer it though!
- Art Site - design a site for a museum or artist. (Come on, what is Art Site's first name?) This isn't an actual site, it's a proposed design. I chose photographer Ian Wickstead's work.
- Flash + Site Redesign - two combined projects because these will go live on the same site, www.abcawards.org in November. I've been working on redesigning this site for my friends Mike and Joan Skok who own ABCAWARDS in Wappingers Falls, NY. I wrote a Flash commercial advertising their laser engraved wood (or marble) diplomas.
- Marketing - help promote a person or business. My friend Wiley Jay Christopher is working on a fascinating project called The Peace Matrix.
Tools and Techniques
- Adobe CS4 Web Premium - this suite of applications was our primary developers kit. We didn't use all programs in the suite. We relied on these:
- Photoshop
- Dreamweaver
- Illustrator
- Flash
- Soundbooth
- Bridge
- HTML - Hypertext Markup Language - The building block of web pages. We used version 4.01 Strict and ran our pages through validation
- CSS - where HTML provides structure (paragraphs, list items, hyperlinks) CSS provides style. Colors, spacing, text or picture orientation, fonts are some examples.
- Javascript - A scripting language that allows a web user interact with the web site. For
- JQuery - is a powerful Javascript library.
- PHP - for webserver scripting (as opposed to Javascript which runs in your own browser)
